Our client’s are all blue-chip companies in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector. Industry Sectors covered include Industry Sectors covered include Personal Care & Household, Tobacco, and Liquor & Beverage. Position Titles: Trade Marketing Manager, Channel Manager, Category Manager Geographical areas covered: Opportunities span across South Africa (Gauteng, KawZuluNatal, Eastern Cape, &Western Cape).
Essential Requirements PURPOSE OF POSITIONS

Effectively develop and manage Category Trade Strategies focused on the 4P’s to drive sales and maximise market share and category profitability by aligning Trade to Brand Strategies that support the Consumer Marketing Plan.


Key Performance Indicators:

Effectively develop and manage Category Trade Strategies focused on the 4P’s

Regularly maintain and update Trade Strategies for sales/marketing to reflect current market conditions

Data analysis & consumer / shopper understanding as the basis for “Go to Market” strategies covering NPD, category/ business reviews and particular account/customer issues

Understand and maximize route to market and bottom end growth strategies

Ensure all relevant market and consumer information that can develop or enhance category performance is available for the sales & marketing teams

Ensure that all NPD / EPD have clearly defined Trade Category Insights and the voice of the customer/trade is clearly understood

Assist Marketing in development of NPD trade launch packages through effective analysis & presentation of market and consumer / shopper information

Ability to demonstrate unmet consumer needs and the associated potential revenue / profit benefit for the retailer / wholesaler in the NPD process and influence the Category Team to ensure all NPD has category development capability

Provide sales with a total launch package that maximises Speed to Market and Customer Managers success with trade acceptance & support

Develop shelf layouts that maximise exposure and sales the brand portfolio whilst maintaining a category growth focus. This involves ultimate responsibility for all shelf layouts across all customers for allocated categories

Represent sales and trade marketing in all allocated project teams to ensure other business functions are aware of trade requirements and limitations and that NPD / EPD projects are completed timeously and in a manner that allows efficient execution with the trade

Overall trade responsibility for allocated customer’s and regions

Daily communication with relevant customer personnel as well as the operational sales teams to deal with any account issues regarding layouts, distribution or identified opportunities

Maintenance and publication of key sales measurement documents such as “Speed to Market” monitor, Distribution Grid, Pricing survey and Sales Cycle Brief

Working closely with Space and Category Planning Team to develop category management, customer interaction, and presentation and communication skills to assist with their internal career development

Category Management development with key customers
Manage and control department budgets, operating costs, sales revenue, and number of clients, number of suppliers, and number of products pertinent to the category

Manage direct staff and sub-ordinate reports as well as associated 3rd party service providers

Planning of trade launch initiatives including stock management, stock allocation and other trade issues. – Timeline is the NPD development & launch period.


Qualifications, Experience and ideal behavioural competencies
Relevant completed tertiary qualification
3 – 5 years sales experience in Trade Marketing / Channel / Category / Customer Management in SA FMCG sector
Category Management / Development knowledge
Space Management / Category Planning knowledge - Intactix
Market Data analysis experience / knowledge
Successful Project Management experience across multi functional teams
Proven ability of managing budgets and delivering against targets
Understanding the Principles of Consumer and Shopper Insights
Sound computer literacy (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and proficient use of category management software tools & VALID DRIVERS LICENCE
